1. There are a lot of foods that affect the taste of your seminal or vaginal fluids, but pineapple is one of the strongest. Eating a lot of pineapple makes you taste sweeter, and less ‘fishy’.

2. When you cut up a pineapple at home, you normally chuck the skin, core and ends in the bin. The pineapple canning industry doesn’t though, these bits are used for making alcohol, vinegar and animal feed.

3. Each pineapple plant only produces just one pineapple per year.

4. Unripe pineapples don’t just taste vile, but can actually be quite poisonous. Eating it causes serious throat irritation and it has a strong laxative effect.

5. Pineapples grow slowly, and can take up to two years to reach full size, so we pick and eat them when they are much smaller, but if they are left to their own devices they can reach up to 9kg (20lbs).

6. If you want to speed up the ripening of a pineapple, so that you can eat it faster, then you can do it by standing it upside down (on the leafy end).

7. Traditionally pineapple juice was used as a diuretic and to induce labour.

8. The Bromelain enzyme in pineapples breaks down proteins. This means that you can use pineapple or pineapple juice as a meat tenderiser.

9. The same Bromelain enzyme means that you can’t put fresh pineapple in jelly, because it breaks down the gelatine. You can stop this from happening by boiling the chunks of pineapple in their juice or in water for a few minutes, or you can use canned pineapple.

10. In case you find yourself on a sailing trip in the tropics without any Ajax, you might like to know that pineapple juice mixed with sand is very good for cleaning boat decks and machete blades.

The harsh words that I throw at you at times that you are being hard headed; those are gestures of my concern and love for you. I never wanted to see you suffer.

You made mama and papa proud. You chose to be a nurse. You did well. You passed the nursing board exam and that’s when all your dreams went near at the palm of your hands. You have so many plans. You promised the world to mama and papa. They are very proud of you. You have given them so much joy. And me as your sister, words are not enough to express how much I was SO proud of you.

The time given to us was too short, way too short. I hated your fate. I hated the fact that I wasn’t able to help you in your pain. All I can do then was pray and pray for your recovery. I never imagined that it would end to DEATH. A death that I was too afraid to face. But reality hit me and you are gone forever…

The moment I saw you in that black zippered bag, laid on that huge tiled sink, my heart was crushed, as if it was punched, crumpled, and stabbed. I didn’t cared even there were other dead bodies in there. All I cared was to see you in the hopes that a miracle can still happen. I run to you and unzipped that black bag to see you. I was in horror. You were numb! Your eyes half closed. You were cold and pale. MY GOD! WHY? Damn!!! The surge of my tears was unstoppable. Chaos covered me.

That was the first time I cried hard in my entire life. The emotions that engulfed me are beyond expression. If only I could battle death just to bring your life back, I would.

But I guess that is what is meant by DEATH.
I lost my younger sister. She is too young to die. I love her so much and I will miss her forever.

I don’t know when I will get better. Only time can tell. You will be forever in my heart. I am longing for you. I am so much in pain. You cannot blame me. Remember Ate Lala and me are like your second mom? When you were small, we were the ones who looked after you, changed your diapers, feed you, and carry you when mama is away. My God!

Until we meet again TALA! We don’t know. Maybe sooner or later.

After eliminating massive ash last Wednesday, Mount Mayon again showed a threatening crater glow that is almost visible at 15 km away. But expert Ed Laguerta, resident volcanologist here in the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), said Mayon’s surface remains inflated despite the series of ash or phreatic explosions.

“This means that magmatic pressure inside the volcano is sustained. But all these activities are still within alert level 2,” Laguerta said in a radio interview."

Fake Plastic Plants for Artificial Photosynthesis?

An artificial plant that can do artificial photosynthesis? Yes, that's what a Chemist, Daniel Nocera of MIT is trying to invent - Mimic photosynthesis!

His idea is simple - Split water into hydrogen and oxygen with sunlight, and then recombine them (which creates energy) in a fuel cell when power is needed. The trick is to do both these things cheaply.

Nocera has come up with a way to split water into its constituent elements that is less expensive than the machines used today. But he has yet to show that it can be done on a broad scale.

For now, the future of an artificial leaf that’s as cheap as the real ones may come down to some elementary chemistry: Can scientists find replacements for the expensive and rare metals currently required? Nocera says a “new catalyst” for fuel cells is what’s needed, but he’s hopeful that he’ll find it. He predicts success in less than a decade—or about as long as it takes to grow a tree.
